Important announcement on libraries, halls and community centre closures

Posted on 19 Mar 2020

In the interest of public safety and to adhere to current NHS and Government guidelines surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, North Ayrshire public libraries will close at the end of their regular hours of operation today.

The HAC, Heritage Centre and Irvine Townhouse will remain closed as per our update this morning and all halls and community centres will be closed to external lets from close of business Friday.

Eglinton Country Park remains open as a public space but the cafe, visitors centre and toilets are now closed.

Greenwood Conference Centre will remain open for back office work until 4.30pm on Friday 27 March.

We note there are significant equalities issues in the closure of our public libraries and other facilities. We considered these issues, and the lack of available time to consult, and took the view that, notwithstanding such impacts, closure was a proportionate and necessary step.
