Family fun in store at Fairer Food decision day event
Posted on 28 May 2019
Come along and enjoy some fantastic, free family activities at Eglinton Park on Saturday 8 June, as part of North Ayrshire Council’s Fairer Food decision day event.
The participatory budgeting process, which kicked off earlier this year, invited individuals and groups to bid for up to £1250 to help fund initiatives that improve access to food in their communities, with residents asked to come along to the decision day event at the park’s Racquet Hall to hear all about the projects and vote for their favourites.
As well as voting, you’ll also be able to enjoy cooking demonstrations, a food growing workshop with Eglinton Growers, a Bling it Bike arts and crafts session with the Active Travel team, guided walks with the Countryside Rangers, multisports activities and health checks from KA Leisure, a silent disco, kids’ face painting, information stalls and more.
The event runs from 10.30am to 1pm and voting is open to anyone who lives, works or volunteers in the North Ayrshire.
There will be two free shuttle buses running to the event, with pick-up and drop-off points in Garnock Valley, Kilwinning, Largs, Three Towns and Irvine. Click here for further information.
To book your place on a bus, email your name, number of seats required, pick-up point and a contact number/email to ParticipatoryBudgeting@north-ayrshire.gov.uk. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You can also book by calling 01294 324508.
Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Access to nutritious food is crucial for good health and well-being, and we know that food can also be a powerful tool in bringing people together and helping to reduce social isolation in the community.
“We would urge residents to please come along and enjoy the event, where they can learn more about the fantastic projects operating in their locality and have a say on how the Fairer Food budget is divided up among the shortlisted applicants.”
