Digital Strategy launched during National Customer Service Week 2017

North Ayrshire Council continues to ensure that the latest technology helps improve the lives of its residents with the launch of its digital strategy.

The strategy outlines how the Council will build on its previous successes to deliver more effective and efficient high quality services.

Called Smarter Ways of Working, the blueprint will ensure local residents will remain the Council’s top priority.

North Ayrshire Council Leader Joe Cullinane said: “The new Digital Strategy is about ensuring people are at the heart of what we do, engaging with residents when designing services and choosing technology, and making sure we support them to make the most of their technology.

“We know that digital inclusion is a huge issue. Most of our residents will access the internet on a day-to-day basis - about 80 per cent of people – but that means there is still a significant number of people who don’t have internet access or the skills they need to make the most of it.

“That matters because research shows that those who don’t have digital access can be worse off between £500 and £800 a year. We can support our residents who are not digitally engaged in a variety of ways, whether that’s helping them find cheaper gas and electricity or getting them online for the first time.”

The digital strategy will be built on five key strands as it develops over the coming years:

  • Customers - Providing digital services so good that they are the preferred choice for all
  • People - Developing a workforce that is empowered, enabled and inspired to realise the benefits of digital
  • Digital Participation - Encouraging and supporting customers to make the most of digital opportunities
  • Collaboration - Seeking out opportunities to collaborate and break down barriers
  • Smart - Using data and new technologies to operate more effectively

The document lays out how the Council will help people become more digitally aware, with staff working to engage people, whether that’s supporting them to get online at libraries or working with Community Planning Partners to provide people with skills for work.

The Digital Strategy was launched to mark National Customer Service Week 2017, raising awareness of customer service and the vital role it plays for businesses and organisations.

As part of National Customer Service Week 2017, North Ayrshire Council will have staff on hand to help local residents online. Residents can take their smart phone or tablet along to the Customer Service Centre at Bridgegate in Irvine throughout the week where staff will help them to access all the online services we offer.
