Council: 'Nobody will be homeless this Christmas'

NORTH Ayrshire Council says they will ensure NOBODY is without accommodation this festive period.
The local authority provides an all-year round service that guarantees suitable accommodation for people who may find themselves roofless and support to those struggling to sustain their home.
Anyone at risk of rough sleeping or needing housing support in North Ayrshire is urged to come forward and seek assistance.
Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, said: “We want to reassure people that support is out there as nobody should ever be without a roof over their head.
“There are services available all year round to assist people, ensuring that they have access to the appropriate support.
“We act when we are told that someone is rough sleeping, including approaching the individual and offering assistance even though it is not always accepted.
“Often Council staff ascertain that the person is not homeless but needs support with their financial situation. In these instances, assistance is provided to reduce the need for the individual to turn to begging. Not all homeless people beg and not all those who beg are homeless.
“The Housing Advice Team provides people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness with advice and assistance. Where required, temporary accommodation is offered and the service works with partner agencies to ensure all homeless households are provided with the appropriate advice and assistance, leading to a sustainable outcome.
“Our temporary accommodation is dispersed across North Ayrshire and the service is available all year round. In addition to temporary accommodation, we can assist people to access essentials such as food and clothing. The service also assists people to ensure that they have access to the appropriate welfare benefits and support.”
