Council confirm voucher scheme will help families over October holidays

North Ayrshire Council has confirmed it will continue to help feed families in need across the region during the forthcoming October school holidays.
It has been agreed that the voucher system that was rolled out to help combat holiday hunger during the summer will be in place during the latest holiday.
Valued at £20 per week for each child - £4 per day - these can be used as soon as you receive them and will cover the full week.
There will be separate vouchers for each child, and you don’t need to spend the whole amount you have received at the same time. They cannot be used for age-restricted products such as tobacco and alcohol.
Only those registered for free school meals will receive the vouchers. They do not cover universal entitlement to p1 - p3.
The voucher system is being introduced as an alternative to the ‘Wrap, Run and Fun’ holiday clubs which are not able to run due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The vouchers are being emailed out to those with a registered email address and posted to everyone else.
Councillor Joe Cullinane, Leader of North Ayrshire Council, said: “We take the issue of holiday hunger extremely seriously and have proved that over a number of years now.
“We are obviously disappointed that we are not able to carry out our normal ‘Wrap, Run and Fun’ service but hope the voucher scheme will provide young people with nutritious food during the holiday.
“It worked really well over the summer and we are sure it will be a real support to families during the October holiday.”
