Council confirm final two car parks for reopening

Posted on 2 Jul 2020

North Ayrshire Council has confirmed that ALL car parks across the region will be open from tomorrow as the last phase of reopening car parks is implemented.

The final two car parks at Largs seafront and Vikingar, which are still closed , will be back in use from Friday (3 July) in line with Scottish Government guidance on travelling for leisure and recreational purposes.

While the other car parks across the region were opened over the first two phases, the two main car parks in Largs remained closed to deter visitors from further afield visiting the popular tourist hotspot.

But now that the five-mile travel rule has been lifted, the Council has agreed they should now open.

Councillor Joe Cullinane, Leader of North Ayrshire Council, said: “We have taken a very measured approach to re-opening our car parks and have tried to keep it very much aligned with the guidance from the Scottish Government.

“We were clear that we didn’t want to open these two car parks until the five mile travel restrictions was lifted.

“While it is welcome news that we are now in a position to have all car parks operational again, we all need to maintain physical distancing, good hand hygiene and follow the other national guidelines. If we all do that we can look forward to other restrictions easing further over the coming weeks.”
