Charging re-introduced to Largs seafront carpark

Posted on 14 Jan 2022

The carpark at Largs seafront has been upgraded with the latest technology to improve the overall experience for residents and visitors when using the popular facility.

And now that the works have been completed, the previous parking charges will apply again from Monday 17 January onwards, having been temporarily stopped for the duration of the works.

The improvement works bring many benefits, including:

  • ticketless parking
  • new customer payment methods including cash, card, contactless and smartphone payment
  • 24 hr CCTV monitoring
  • 24hr remote customer assistance
  • remotely controlled barrier opening

The 137-space barrier-controlled carpark plays host to an average of 75,000-80,000 visitors each year. Income generated from the carpark is used to help support community projects, events and services in the Largs area.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The seafront carpark in Largs is arguably one of the most popular facilities of its type in North Ayrshire, used by tens of thousands of people each year.

“The previous infrastructure used for entry/exit, payment and monitoring of the carpark was no longer fit for purpose and needed upgrading.

“We are delighted with the improvements that have been made and are confident that they will be a welcome addition to the carpark – making it much simpler, safer and offering more flexibility for customers including the many tourists that visit Largs and use the carpark.”
