B7081 expected to re-open this weekend

Posted on 6 Oct 2021

The B7081 road is expected to re-open this weekend once reinstatement works have taken place.

A section of the road has been temporarily closed following subsidence between Dreghorn and Springside.

Scottish Water, supported by North Ayrshire Council, carried out a Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS) followed by excavation work which was completed yesterday (Tuesday).

Scottish Water are satisfied that the subsidence was localised and that there is no risk to the high pressure main and intend to commence backfilling the excavation today (Wednesday) and complete tomorrow. As a precautionary measure, they will install some reinforcement to strengthen the area.

Once complete, North Ayrshire Council will commence reinstatement of the road surface.

We currently expect this work to be completed on Saturday with the road re-opening as soon as the work is finished.

In the meantime, the temporary shuttle service will continue to run until the road is re-opened.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said “We understand that this closure to ensure public safety has resulted in inconvenience for a number of people. We thank you for your patience while investigation, excavation was undertaken. Repair and reinstatement works are now underway to ensure that the road can be re-opened safely.”
