Posted on 21 Feb 2020

Ayrshire Archives will be closed to visitors and all public enquiries from Sunday 1 March 2020.

With the main service currently located at Watson Peat Building, Auchincruive, Ayr, the purpose of the closure is to prepare for and move to a new purpose-built facility in Ayr, set to re-open in early 2021.

Ayrshire Archives is the local authority archive service for North, East and South Ayrshire Council.

During the planned closure services at the Townhouse, Irvine and, the Family History Centre at Burns Monument Centre, Kilmarnock, will also be impacted.

All Ayrshire Archives locations and search rooms will be closed to all public enquiries from Sunday 1 March 2020.

North Ayrshire Council’s heritage service will continue to provide access to local history, heritage and genealogy held at the Heritage Centre in Saltcoats and Irvine’s Townhouse, Irvine throughout the closure, however this will not extend to materials held by Ayrshire Archives.

Record deposits will continue to be accepted but only by appointment at the current Ayrshire Archives Headquarters, Ayr.
