Don't miss your chance to visit Ayr Sketch Club's first exhibition at the HAC

Posted on 25 Apr 2023

After a successful showcase and great turnout over the Easter break, the Harbour Arts Centre will soon be wrapping up the first ever HAC 'Ayr Sketch Club' exhibition.

Brimming with artistic talent, the annual exhibition is on display in the HAC’s Main Galleries until Saturday 29 April.

This is first time this art club has displayed members work at HAC and it is a feast for the eyes, with a collection of both amateur and professional works.

Artist Lucy MacDonald the exhibition secretary of Ayr Sketch Club commented: “Our 122nd annual exhibition recently ended at Ayr’s Maclaurin Gallery and was a great success.

“On display is an array of paintings and drawings all for sale and the artists of note include:

  • Sandra Ratcliffe – colourful expressionist skies in acrylic;
  • Colin MacKay – exquisitely detailed, atmospheric sea and landscapes in oils;
  • Paul A. Trainor – moody and deeply graphic nocturnes in oils;
  • Jean Berry – light and refreshing florals in watercolour;
  • and Audrey Kaufman with her thought-provoking textural abstracts in mixed media.

“Even if you are popping into the cafe next door and are only planning on having a quick look, the quality and talent of our members promises to mesmerise visitors and will bring a splash of colour and creativity to their day.”

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities and Islands commented: “Founded over a hundred years ago, Ayr Sketch Club brings the very best of professional and amateur painters and creative practitioners together to spotlight their works in a variety of media.

“It’s wonderful to see such a variety of work under one roof. From scenic landscapes, abstract expressions and striking sculptural pieces, the exhibition really does have something for everyone.

“If you’re interested in art or are looking for something different to do, I would recommend that you pop along to the HAC this week to see this exceptional showcase up close for yourself.”
