Ashleigh Building donate vital PPE supplies to frontline workers

Posted on 22 Apr 2020

North Ayrshire Council staff have thanked local business, Ashleigh Building for their generous donation of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

The Prestwick building firm stepped up to provide help to dedicated key workers in North Ayrshire when they heard the worrying reports of a lack of PPE across the country for workers on the frontline fight against coronavirus.

With global demand rising and local supply chains experiencing blockages, Ashleigh speedily delivered their available supplies to Council staff this week.

The generous donation included, 36 pairs of safety goggles, 50 protective face masks, 20 boxes of 100 disposable gloves, 48 pairs of general trade gloves and 20 coverall’s in various sizes.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, said: “I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support of local businesses and Ashleigh Building have really stepped up to help our key workers to deliver what is an invaluable service to vulnerable people across North Ayrshire during these unprecedented times.

“Over the coming weeks, we will all need to continue to pull together and help each other play our part in overcoming the challenges of the pandemic. If we do that, and follow the advice given by public health experts, then we can overcome this together.”

David Smith, Managing Director at Ashleigh Building said: “As we headed towards the decision to lockdown our sites, we were acutely aware that the availability of PPE and cleaning products were becoming a very real issue.

“Once we decided to close the sites, we had a surplus and after their call for assistance, we rounded up what we had and delivered supplies to North Ayrshire Council as quickly as we could.

“That seems a long time ago already after a few weeks at home, but we hope that our small contribution has helped to protect the care teams who are doing a fabulous job for the community.”

If you or your organisation has any PPE equipment to spare, please get in touch with North Ayrshire Council Procurement at 01294 324039 as in doing so you will help to play an instrumental part in our fight against coronavirus.
