Artist Karin Hepburn brings her enlightening exhibition to Irvine's Harbour Arts Centre

An artist has realised a lifelong ambition by staging her first solo show – and it’s being held right here in North Ayrshire.
Kilmarnock teacher Karin Hepburn recently enjoyed a successful launch night at Irvine’s Harbour Arts Centre for her exhibition, which is called Into the Light and runs until January.
Karin, who studied at Glasgow School of Art, said: “The gallery looks amazing and I maximised the space as much as I could, including my affordable print collection. I was totally thrilled to sell a couple of originals on the launch evening, especially in this economic climate.
“I was celebrating one of my lifelong ambitions, having my first solo show. And I could not have asked for a better gallery, staff and friends for my first event.”
Karin, who was born in Glasgow, graduated with a BA (Hons) in Design before attaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Strathclyde.
She went on to teach in Luton before returning to Scotland in 1995 and has been teaching in Kilmarnock since. Following a sabbatical in 2017 she developed her painting career and produced some mini collections for Pittenweem Arts Festival in 2019 and 2002.
Her limited edition giclee prints are increasing in popularity and have been sent worldwide to places including France, Majorca, Singapore, Australia, Dubai, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Florida and California, Germany and Tokyo.
In recent years, her pieces have grown in scale and are often influenced by Scotland’s dramatic skies and holidays here.
Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Minister for Communities and the Islands, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to head along to the arts centre, enjoy some art and see what we are offering people right here in Irvine.
“Thanks to the efforts of the Council’s Arts & Culture Team we are lucky to attract Scottish artists like Karin to North Ayrshire.”
As part of the exhibition, Karin will also be teaching one of her Paint and Sip workshops in the Harbour Arts Centre on Saturday, December 10th. For more information, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
Entry to Into the Light is free and you can head along to enjoy Karin’s art in the Main galleries until Saturday, January 7th. Please note, HAC is closed from Wednesday, December 21st until Wednesday, January 4th.
