Private Sector Advice Service

What is the Private Sector Advice Service?

The Private Sector Advice Service offers advice and assistance to anyone with housing issues in the private sector. It is managed by Housing Services, and officers can speak to you about any concerns you may have and offer you support.

Private sector housing includes all properties that are owner occupied or privately rented, but does not include council houses or those managed by housing associations.

The service is part of our scheme of assistance which aims to improve the condition of properties in the private sector and promote independent living. We have created various guidance documents, which describes the information, advice and support we may provide.

Who can use the service?

All home owners, private tenants and private landlords who live or rent properties in North Ayrshire can use the Private Sector Advice Service.

Anyone else with any questions about private sector housing can also get in touch.

What advice is available?

The team will be able to provide advice and assistance on a range of housing matters including:

  • rights and responsibilities
  • the condition of properties
  • common repairs
  • landlord registration
  • disabled adaptations
  • resolving disputes
  • energy efficiency
  • empty Homes

We do not provide specific financial or legal advice.
