Criminal Justice Social Work Reports
When someone is found guilty of an offence the Court may ask for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report to decide on an appropriate sentence.
The report focuses on offending behaviour and any risk that they may posed to the community. It:
- identifies needs to be addressed to reduce the likelihood of further offending
- highlights sentencing options that might help with this process.
Structured Deferred Sentence
The Court may decide that a period of Structured Deferred Sentence is an appropriate option. This allows the criminal justice service user to engage in offence focused work, eg an alcohol education programme. They appear for sentencing afterwards. If the individual has made good use of this, the Court may consider a lower sentence.
We prepare reports for the Scottish Parole Board to help them with prisoner early release decisions.
