Our older people's day services are designed to:
- keep people active, involved and stimulated
- provide a nutritious lunch
- help reduce loneliness and isolation
- provide a break for carers
Our day services take place in day centres across North Ayrshire and are staffed by specially trained assistants and officers.
Anyone aged 65, or over, may apply.
How to apply
Contact your local Health and Social Care Partnership office and ask for an assessment of your needs.
If your assessment confirms that you would benefit from this service, a member of staff will contact you when a place becomes available and can organise a visit and offer days to attend.
In addition to assisting with personal care, we provide a range of activities including:
- quizzes and games
- visiting entertainers
- chair exercises
- arts and crafts
- cooking lessons
- day trips
We encourage the sharing of memories by running reminiscence sessions, which helps to promote mental activity and maintain communication skills.
What to expect
At your first visit, you will be greeted by your key worker who will show you around, make sure that you settle in and will be your contact for any questions you may have.
Your key worker will prepare a personal plan with you, which will include an overview of your likes and dislikes and any needs that they can assist with. It will enable you to express what you hope to gain from your attendance and how you are going to achieve it. This will be shared amongst staff who will take these considerations into account.
Benefits of attending
If you live alone, having regular social contact reduces the risk of any deterioration in your health and wellbeing going unnoticed. If staff notice a decline in your health, or ability to perform daily tasks, then they can arrange for a review of your assessment of need and your support services adjusted accordingly.
Day services run from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Is transport provided?
If your assessment shows that you require it, we can provide return transport from your home to the day centre. Transport is wheelchair and power chair accessible.
Do I have to pay?
Day services are subject to our charging policy. The current cost per person is £11.00 per day inclusive of transport, personal care and meals. How much you contribute towards this cost will be decided by a financial assessment. We always take into account your ability to pay.
