Gaelic Medium Primary Education

Gaelic Medium Primary Education (GMPE) gives young people the chance to become fluent in both Gaelic and English.

North Ayrshire does not currently offer Gaelic Medium Education (GME). However we work with partner local authorities that offer Gaelic education. We teach Gaelic as an extra language in some of our local primary schools including:

  • St Bridget’s Primary
  • St Peter’s Primary
  • Arran Primary Schools

Contact the local authority to enquire about your child accessing GMPE.

Assessment of Need for GMPE

Parents of a child who is under school age and has not started to attend a primary school can request an assessment of the need for GMPE in North Ayrshire.

If you would like your child to access GME and they have not yet started to attend a primary school, you can request a GMPE assessment.

View a diagram on how to complete this request form.

Please note that a request for an assessment of the need for GMPE is not the same as an application to enrol a child in any existing, or potential, provision.
