As part of the Scottish Budget 2022-23 announcement on 10 February 2022, Scottish Ministers announced additional support to low income households to help tackle the cost of living crisis.
The Cost of Living Award of £150 will be provided to households who fall into one of four categories:
- Persons living in a dwelling in any Council Tax valuation band, who are liable for Council Tax and in receipt of Council Tax Reduction (CTR)
- Persons who live in and are liable for council tax for a council tax Band A-D dwelling and who do not receive Council Tax Reduction
- Certain categories of person living in a property exempt from Council Tax because all occupants are care leavers, under 18, severely mentally impaired, because they have gone to someone else’s home to provide care or because they receive care elsewhere
- Persons accessing Housing Support Service and/or living in temporary accommodation or a refuge
To receive the Cost of Living Award you must have been eligible under one of the categories listed on the eligibility date of 14 February 2022.
Payment of Awards
The majority of households will receive their award as a credit to their Council Tax accounts for 2022/23. This will be detailed on your annual Council Tax bills, to be issued in late March 2022, and your direct debit or payment schedule will be recalculated automatically, with the value of the award deducted evenly across the required payments.
If you are eligible for an award but are either not registered for Council Tax or have full exemption from the charge for 2022-23, we will contact you directly to arrange an alternative payment option.
If you believe that you should be eligible for this award and either it has not been deducted from your bill or you are not registered for Council Tax, please contact North Ayrshire Council’s Customer Services team on 01294 310000, or email email@example.com.
