Ardrossan Harbour redevelopment

The Ardrossan Harbour Redevelopment Project will upgrade and redevelop the Ferry Terminal and berthing arrangements to create a 21st century multimodal transport interchange. The proposals follow confirmation from Scottish Government that Ardrossan will provide the mainland port for the Arran and Kintyre services in the long term.

The works will improve resilience and support the operation of the MV Glen Sannox when it comes into service.

The works will comprise:

  • Marine works including the realignment of the Arran berth to increase the manoeuvring space available to vessels and other harbour improvements.
  • Landside works including a new terminal building, connections to the town and public transport networks and the upgrade of the marshalling and parking facilities.

What's happening and what's in the pipeline

Construction will be confirmed following an agreement between Transport Scotland and Peel Ports Group.

During the works the ferry services will be temporarily relocated to the port of Troon.

A period of public consultation on the draft designs commenced in February 2022 and the development framework has been issued.

As of August 2023, Transport Scotland have decided to review the business case for this project. This is to take into account increased scope and costs as a result of recent construction inflation. The Council are fully engaged with all partners and stakeholders regarding this review which is hoped to conclude by the end of 2023.
