What happens if I don't pay?
Paying Council Tax is not a matter of choice. We'll take action to recover any debt owed. It's important that you make arrangements to clear arrears as soon as possible.
Our Debt Recovery Team works in partnership with Stirling Park, Sheriff Officers to maximise collection of unpaid Council Tax.
Pay by monthly instalment
It is important that each monthly instalment is paid on, or before, the due date. If your payment is made in this way we won't send a Statement of Account.
If you don't make payment, as shown on your most recent bill, you will receive a Statement of Account for the unpaid amount. This must be paid within 7 days.
If you don't pay the amount due, you will lose the right to pay by instalments and the full balance on your account will be due within 21 days. The Statement of Account includes the full balance on your account at the time of issue.
A maximum of 2 Statements of Account can be issued in a financial year.
If the full balance is not paid a 10% statutory addition will be added and the arrears passed to Sheriff Officers for collection. This process is governed by the Local Finance Act 1992, Section 97.
