What is a community alarm?
A community alarm is a piece of equipment, which is fitted into your home and linked to a response centre via your telephone line. You activate the alarm by touching a button and a signal is sent to the response centre to indicate that you may require assistance or advice.

What is Smart Technology?
Smart Technology is a term used for any equipment that helps you to live more safely in your own home, perform tasks that you might not otherwise be able to do easily or safely, or raise the alarm when things go wrong.

What service is provided?
The community alarm service is available 24 hours a day throughout the year. Staff based at a local response centre can contact the mobile attendants if required.

Mobile attendants have undergone specialised training in various aspects of care provision.

Who is the service for?
The community alarm services is provided for older people and for younger disabled people who:

  • are normally house bound or isolated
  • live alone or with another vulnerable person
  • live with a carer or carers who need the service as an essential part in maintaining their care arrangements.

Who is eligible for the community alarm service?
Following an assessment of need (which will take account of your health and social circumstances), we will decide whether or not to provide a community alarm service. We can provide an alarm if you: have an illness, are frail or have a disability which limits your ability to live at home alone; have been in hospital and need some extra support when you come home, perhaps temporarily; and have someone caring for you who needs extra support. If we feel the community alarm could help you to stay at home, we will provide the service and then regularly review your needs.

What is the Community Alarm service?
The community alarm service provides peace of mind for people who feel at risk in their own homes. It is a 24 hour 365 day monitoring service which works via a special alarm unit connected to the telephone line.

How much does the Community Alarm service cost?
The community alarm doesn't cost anything.
