Historical searches for Births

We have an experienced team who will gladly assist you in your search. Tracing your family tree is fairly straightforward. Start with your own birth certificate and work backwards in time using such details as full name, date and place of birth.

Death and marriage certificates also provide a lot of valuable information. It may be of some use for you to check with some older members of your family to clarify or help with names, dates, places. Once on track, you will find tracing your line of descent back to 1855 (the date statutory registration commenced in Scotland) is relatively simple.

In order to make use of our family research facility, please contact staff at any of our Registration Offices |to request an appointment.

Records and Indexes available throughout North Ayrshire:

  • Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages (From 1855 - Present)
  • Scottish Divorces (From 1984 - Present )
  • Census Records 1841 - 1901

The Vennel Local and Family History Centre| based at the Glasgow Vennel in Irvine has a vast range of records that will be of enormous benefit for the ancestry researcher, including census returns, photographs, monumental inscriptions and maps. We can also arrange appointments with the Registrars on your behalf to come to the Centre.

You may find the Ayrshire Roots| website useful in your research.

  • Particular Search - £5 per search.

  • Birth entries 100 years or over;
  • Death entries 50 years or over;
  • Marriage entries 75 years or over.
