Placing Requests Appeals
Parents can make a placing request for your child to be educated in a school other than the delineated area school. In December each year, the authority will advertise its arrangements in connection with placing requests.
If your placing request is refused you can lodge an appeal with an appeal committee within 28 days of receipt of our decision.
By the time of the appeal you will know the reasons why your placing request was refused. You are able to present your case in person or through a representative.
You have the right of further appeal to the Sheriff if the appeal committee refuses your request. Early entry requests do not have this right of further appeal.
Why Requests Are Sometimes Not Granted
The authority may refuse a placing request where granting it would, amongst other reasons:
-
incur additional costs for the authority
-
be detrimental to the child's education
-
exceed the capacity of the school.
Further information can be found in the Sending Your Child to School leaflet |(Pdf 482kb)
