Grey Bins

Your grey bin is collected every two weeks and it's for any rubbish that can't be recycled.

Please have your grey bin ready for collection at the kerbside before 7.00am on your collection day.

To find out when your grey bin will be collected type your postcode into the box below where you can also view and print your refuse collection calendar.

Please note we don't lift any rubbish placed beside your bin.

If you live in a household with five or more people, an additional grey bin may be issued after an assessment by one of our waste awareness officers. You also may qualify for an additional grey bin if one or more of the residents has a medical condition and additional space is required.

If you have purchased an additional grey bin that you no longer require or qualify for, this can be exchanged for a free blue or brown bin.

For further information please call 0845-603-0594.

If you have difficulty putting your grey, blue or black box out for collection you may be eligible to apply for an assisted pull out.  If you have bulky household waste to be collected you can use our special uplift service.

Why do I have to pay for a grey bin when the blue bins are free?
The blue bin is free at the moment to encourage recycling, however this may be subject to review in the future.

What is a bin assessment and why can't I just get a second bin when I am willing to pay for it?
We conduct an assessment to see if you fit a certain criteria for an additional bin. Targets and legislations set by the Scottish Government means we have to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill.

What if I need an additional grey bin?
If you live in a household with five or more people, an additional grey bin may be issued after an assessment by our waste awareness officer.

What happens if I put my grey bin out on the wrong week?
We operate an Alternate Weekly Collection Scheme as detailed on your calendar. You can view this on local view. It is the same vehicle that collects your grey bin and blue bin therefore you must ensure you place the correct bin out for collection. We are unable to mix any of the waste from your grey bin in the vehicle during blue bin week as this will contaminate the entire vehicle.

What do I do if I forget to put my grey bin out?
Unfortunately, we cannot quarantee the vehicle would be able to return for your grey bin. They have designated routes to complete in that day. Please call our Litter/Recycling Hotline immediately for more information.

If the refuse collectors forget to take my grey bin, will they come back?
yes please contact the litter/Recycling Hotline as soon as possible and we will endeavour to return to empty your grey bin on the same day.

I don't want an additional bin but where can I take any extra kitchen waste I have?
You can take extra waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centres. However, you may be interested in home composting

Can I have an additional bin if I have a medical condition?
An additional 140 litre grey bin may be issued to a household if one or more of the residents has a medical condition and additional space is required.
