Services A to Z:

Black Boxes

We are making improvements to the kerbside recycling service.  From Monday 9 April 2012, residents will also be able to use the blue bin to recycle their glass and even more plastics such as plastic bags, food and fruit trays, yoghurt pots and hard plastics such as small toys.

The black box is used to recycle unbroken glass like bottles and jars and is uplifted from the kerbside every 4 weeks.

Please put your black boxes (with or without their lids) at the kerbside on your collection day before 7.00am.

To find out when your black box will be collected type your postcode into the box below where you can also view and print your refuse collection calendar.

Please do not put plastic bags into your black box as we can't recycle these.

You can use our online facility to request an additional bin

If you have difficulty putting your grey or blue bin or black box out for collection you may be eligible to apply for an assisted pull out.

if your black box was out on time and was not collected we would arrange for the vehicle to return as soon as possible.

My blue bin has been collected but my box has not?
We have a separate vehicle to collect glass

How do I dispose of broken glass eg. Wine bottle?
Any broken glass should be handled with care. It should be wrapped and placed in your grey bin. For Health & Safety reasons for both yourself and our staff we would ask you not to place any broken glass in the black box.
