Consultation has officially begun on school rationalisation plans affecting seven Irvine Primary Schools.
North Ayrshire Council is seeking feedback from existing and prospective parents and carers, staff and pupils on two separate proposals affecting the seven schools.
The proposals are:
-
to close Towerlands, Broomlands and Fencedyke Primary Schools and build one new school to cover the three catchment areas, and
-
to close John Galt Primary School, re-zone the existing catchment areas and transfer pupils to either Woodlands, Annick or Castlepark Primaries.
A review of Primary Schools in Irvine was carried out in 2008 and, at that time, no action was taken. Due to a continued decline in school rolls and financial challenges facing the whole of the public sector, the Council agreed in February to review the position.
Information packs have been issued to all interested parties. Copies of the pack, which includes a background report outlining the reasons behind the school rationalisation plan, a table showing current and anticipated school rolls, a map detailing the current and proposed catchment areas for each of the schools, can be found in the Education and Learning section of the website.
Feedback can be submitted in a variety of ways and the deadline for responses is Friday, 1 October at 12 noon.

Alternatively, those affected can write to: Carol Kirk (Corporate Director of Education and Skills), Cunninghame House, Irvine KA12 8EE.
Meetings will be held at each of the seven schools affected over the next few weeks to give interested parties the opportunity to ask further questions about the proposals.
A report detailing feedback received during the consultation period will then be submitted to HMIE and any further feedback received will be incorporated into a final report which will be presented to the Education Executive later this year for a final decision.
