Crowds flock to the first weekend of the Marymass Festival
Huge crowds gathered in Irvine at the weekend to witness some spectacular opening events as part of the Marymass Festival 2010.
Families flocked to see the fantastic Fourth Port Parade as it wound its way through the streets on Saturday morning. Then the crowds made their way to the first ever Marymass Fun Day at the Bridgegate where hundreds of excited locals not only enjoyed the glorious sunshine but perused the many stalls and lapped up the entertainment on offer at the bandstand.
The fun continued into the evening as the lively Festival of Light Procession illuminated the streets. Brightly-coloured fire-eaters, a samba band and superb stilt walkers entertained young and old alike before the procession culminated in the Marymass Fireworks Display at Irvine Moor.
The Marymass Festival continues until Monday, 23 August and includes many unmissable events such as the Marymass Folk Festival, Dear Mister Burns Exhibition and, of course, the traditional festivities on Marymass Saturday.
