Industrial Action - Wednesday, 30 November
North Ayrshire Council services, such as schools, care services and bin collections will be subject to severe disruption as a result of a national day of industrial action on Wednesday, 30 November.
We will make every effort to minimise the impact of industrial action on services across North Ayrshire and are working hard to ensure essential services are maintained for vulnerable members of the community.
We will continue to work with our staff and their Trade Unions to identify which services will be affected by the industrial action and all information will updated to this page as soon as it becomes available.
Schools
All of North Ayrshire's schools – bar three - will be closed to all pupils and the public on Wednesday 30 November. The schools which will be partially opened are Skelmorlie, Lawthorn and Whiting Bay Primary Schools.
Parents received letters from Head Teachers informing them of the situation at individual schools on Friday, 25 November.
The decision to close schools was taken in order to allow parents and carers sufficient time to make arrangements for their children on Wednesday, 30 November.
Nurseries
Garnock Valley Early Years Nursery will be closed on Wednesday 30 November. Castlepark, Dalry, Kilwinning and Springvale Nurseries will operate a partial service for 3-5 year olds.
The Learning Tree Nursery, which runs at St. John Ogilvie Primary School, will remain open.
Waste Collection and Recycling
Refuse collections are likely to be severely disrupted on Wednesday 30 November. Commercial and cardboard collections which are not carried out on the Wednesday will be collected on the next scheduled collection day.
Domestic Refuse Collections which are not carried out that day will be prioritised and bins will be uplifted as soon as possible, thereafter. Householders should leave their bins out for collection at the normal collection point.
Household Waste Recycling Centres are also expected to be disrupted during the day of industrial action.
There may be disruptions to Special Uplifts booked for that day.
Council Offices
Local Area Offices in Arran, Cumbrae, Saltcoats and Largs are expected to be open on Wednesday, 30 November. However it is likely that these offices will close between 12.30pm and 1.15pm.
Social Services
All of North Ayrshire Council's day care units will be closed on Wednesday, 30 November and all residential care units will operate on a reduced service.
Service-users and carers have received letters advising them of their individual situation.
While there will be disruptions to the majority of services, we will continue to provide core Child, Adult and Public Protection services throughout the day. The most vulnerable service users will receive home visits where necessary.
Social Services offices at Bridgegate House, Irvine, Craigton Road, Kilbirnie, Arran Local Office, Caley Court, Glencairn Business Unit and Moorpark Industrial Estate will be open for emergencies on Wednesday, 30 November.
Signs will be posted at all offices that are closed, giving telephone numbers and addresses of operational offices.
