North Ayrshire Council sets out steps to tackle antisocial behaviour
North Ayrshire Council has outlined the robust measures it aims to use to tackle antisocial behaviour over the next three years.
Prevention, diversion and early intervention are at the heart of the North Ayrshire Antisocial Behaviour Strategy 2011-2014 – which addresses some of the main community concerns.
Developed jointly with members of the Safer North Ayrshire Partnership – including Strathclyde Police, the Children's Reporter and a range of local housing associations – the strategy, entitled Working Together for a Safer North Ayrshire has been drafted following extensive consultation with community groups and members of the public.
The strategy itself describes how the Council, the Police and its partners will work with local communities to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour over the next three years – focusing on prevention, integration, engagement and communication.
The schemes and methods of tackling antisocial behaviour highlighted in the strategy include:
-
Creating more opportunities for younger people
-
Encouraging residents to report crime and antisocial behaviour
-
Intervening at appropriate times to prevent antisocial behaviour
-
Building up close working relations with partner agencies such as the Police, NHS etc
-
Involving and empowering communities to address antisocial behaviour
-
Communicating effectively with the public
-
Improve public awareness of work to address antisocial behaviour
