Permission to hold a Street Collection or House to House Collection

Licence – Street Collection or House to House collection

Street Collection

Any person who intends to collect money or sell articles for the benefit of charitable or other purposes in any street of public place requires permission for a Street Collection from North Ayrshire Council as the Licensing Authority.

A street includes any highway or public bridge, road lane, footway, square, court, alley or passage, whether a thoroughfare or not. Public place includes any area which the public have access.

Street collections are normally only allowed on Saturdays and only one collection is permitted in any one town on any one day.

House to House

The Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 requires a licence to be in place for house to house collections for charitable purposes.

House to House collections are usually only allowed on Monday – Friday and again only one collection is allowed in any one town on any one day.

Who can apply?

Collections can only be made by an organisation and not an individual. The person responsible must be a fit and proper person.

Prior to making an application you will need to check the availability of the date/s you require with the Licensing Section (contact details are to the right of this page).

What happens next?

On receipt of the completed application form it will be circulated to the Licensing Section of Strathclyde Police.It will also be advertised on the Council's website to allow for members of the public to lodge any objections or representations to the issue of the permission.

If there are no objections, the permission will be granted.

What if I don't hear from North Ayrshire Council's Licensing Office within the specified time period?

It is in the public interest that North Ayrshire Council must process your application before it can be granted.If you have not heard from the Licensing Office within a reasonable period, please contact us.You can do this using the contact details to the right of this page.

Please note that the application process may take up to4/5 weeks.

Fees

There is no fee for a public charitable collection.
