Premises Licence
The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 sets up a new liquor licensing system in Scotland. The Act came into effect on 1st September 2009. The Act replaced the former 7 categories of licences, which lasted for 3 years, by a premises licence which will last in perpetuity. A "premises licence" in relation to any premises, means a licence issued by a Licensing Board authorising the sale of alcohol on the premises. Therefore, any person who wishes to sell alcohol on premises must first obtain a premises licence. The premises licence application will have to include an Operating Plan and a Layout Plan. The Operating Plan sets out how the premises will operate and the Layout Plan shows the physical layout of the premises.
