It is important to keep the local community up-to-date with progress on the site, therefore we have produced a Contact Us Information Leaflet and regular newsletters will be published:

The £4.56million Council House Building Project at St. Michael's Wynd, Kilwinning (the former St Michaels Academy site) will develop a total of 40 units:

  • 5 x 2 bedroom bungalows
  • 31 x 2 bedroom houses
  • 3 x 3 bedroom houses
  • 1 x 4 bedroom houses

This development, along with the project to construct 23 new homes at Castlepark in Irvine, will see new Council houses built in North Ayrshire for the first time in almost 30 years.

The Council has invested £5.76million in both projects and successfully bid for a further £1.64million from the Scottish Government

As part of the design process, the Council held three consultation events in Kilwinning to give local residents and housing register applicants the chance to express their views on the proposals and to contribute to the final site plans.

The Winton Avenue site plan (PDF 714Kb) shows the layout and house types which are being constructed on the site.

Wates Living Space were appointed as the contractor for the development on 10th November 2010 and started on-site on 6th December 2010.  The first phase of ahndovers were in October 2011 and propoerties have been handed over on a phased basis.  Final handovers are expected on 24th February 2012.

Castlepark, Irvine

The Castlepark project has seen the first new general needs homes built by North Ayrshire Council in almost 30 years and was completed in March 2011.

23 new homes have been built on the site of the former Castlepark Primary School at a cost of £3.1m. North Ayrshire Council invested over £2.5m in the development and secured an additional £575,000 from the Scottish Government to build the properties.

The Castlepark site plan (PDF, 818Kb) shows the layout and house types that have been constructed on the site.

As part of the contract with developers Cruden Building and Renewals Ltd, North Ayrshire Council stipulated that they must provide employment opportunities for local people. As a result, the contractors provided two young Irvine lads with a two-year structured joinery apprenticeship that will continue even after the completion of the work at Castlepark.
