Services A to Z:

Housing Mediation Service

We provide a mediation service to help resolve disputes between neighbours.  We do this through North Ayrshire Mediation Service  an independent Community Mediation Service for all residents of North Ayrshire.

Mediation is a process, which enables parties in dispute with the help of a trained and neutral mediator to reach an agreement, which will improve the situation.

It is an informal, voluntary process, confidential and free. It does not prevent those taking part from seeking advice from other agencies or pursuing the matter through the legal system.

The mediators visit all the parties involved usually in their own homes and listen to each parties views on the situation, how it is affecting them and what they would like to see happen in the future. If the parties are agreeable the mediators will then arrange for them to meet in a neutral venue to discuss their difficulties in a meeting managed by the mediators.

Mediation is particularly appropriate for dealing with all types of neighbour disputes.

It is not suitable for disputes that have reached the stage of violence, where one or more of the parties have a serious mental health or addiction problem, where there is overt racism or discrimination or where one or more of the parties wish to have a legally binding and enforceable solution to the problem.
