Who can refer me to the occupational health service?
Anyone can make a referral on your behalf (doctor, hospital, housing officer, social worker, relative, etc) or you can refer yourself directly to the occupational health service.

What service is provided by occupational therapy/occupational health?
After an assessment has been made by an occupational therapist, specialised equipment may be supplied or advice offered by occupational therapy/occupational health. With the exception of toileting equipment, you would be expected to meet the cost of any equipment that costs less than £30.

What do I do if the equipment from occupational therapy doesn't help me any more?
You should speak to your occupational health worker and discuss your requirements. You may need to be re-assessed and other equipment issued. Depending upon what the equipment is, you should return it so someone else can use it.

Is there a charge to be assessed by occupational health?
No, there is no charge to be assessed by occupational health.

I want to buy some equipment to help me cope with mobility or other difficulties where do I go?
Speak to one of our occupational therapists who will be able to advise you on the best options for your personal circumstances.

I have nowhere to keep my electric scooter. Can you help?
If you've bought the scooter yourself, you'll need to sort out how to store it. But if you're having financial problems, your occupational therapist might be able to seek charitable funding for you.

Can advice be given about techniques to overcome problems associated with living with a disability?
Yes, after an assessment, Occupational Therapy staff can give practical help to improve activities of daily living.

Am I charged for the occupational therapy service?
You are not charged for an assessment of need. If the equipment you require costs less than £30.00 and is not an adaptation or equipment relating to toileting you will be asked to purchase the equipment. We will, where appropriate, give advice or try a specific piece of equipment if you still wish to go ahead and self fund an item which we would not ordinarily be able to issue you.
