Countryside Ranger Service

North Aryshire Ranger Service Logo Our Ranger Service and Countryside Liaison Officer provide expert knowledge, information and assistance for all visitors to Eglinton Country Park and other areas of countryside within North Ayrshire.

Our purpose is to connect people with places.

The ranger service is responsible for:

  • Ensuring a welcome for visitors
  • Mediating between public use and other land uses
  • Promoting awareness and understanding of the natural and cultural heritage
  • Caring for and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage

The tasks performed by the ranger service are varied and the three main remits cover:

Education

The ranger service offers a full programme of environmental education based on the curriculum for excellence.

The Rangers and Countryside Liaison Officer also have considerable input into Ecoschools, Grounds for Learning and John Muir Award projects. This educational remit is also carried into the local community, working with youth and community groups and using guided walks and illustrated talks to strengthen the message.

Conservation

The staff here at Eglinton Country Park assist in the management of large areas of designated Council lands.  We are central to the biodiversity process, working closely with local communities to enhance and protect local wild spaces.  In promoting and enhancing North Ayrshire's wildlife, we bring a broad range of skills and ecological knowledge, such as species identification and survey methods.

Recreation

The Ranger Service has a key role in supporting recreation in the outdoors to be enjoyed by both local people and visitors.  We can provide advice and support to land managers who wish to improve access over their land and we are often the first port of call for user groups and individuals wanting to know where to walk, horse ride or cycle.  We also carry out regular patrols, checking for risks and reporting maintenance issues when required.

Why not join us on our walks or at various events throughout the year.
