Education in hospital

The Hospital Education Service exists to offer education to children and young people in hospital due to illness, accident or treatment from a long-term medical condition.

For children from North Ayrshire who are in Crosshouse Hospital, we have an agreement with East Ayrshire Council to access the services of the Hospital Education Service|.

The Hospital Education Service offers education to young people in hospital and provides emotional and education support.

The service keeps the young person in contact with the familiar world of school, minimises the isolating effect of illness and helps ease the eventual process of return to school.

Education may also continue at home if a child is absent from school for an extended period due to medical reasons. The Headteacher has the responsibility for applying to Education Services for approval for home tuition.

How can I get Early Entry to primary school for my child?
If you think your child should start primary school at a younger age than is usual, you should contact your local school to discuss this. Applications to apply for Early Entry are available from nurseries, schools and Educational Services Headquarters. This is a very big decision and it is advisable to speak with the nursery staff about your child’s readiness for school.
