Additional Support Needs

North Ayrshire Council has procedures in place for identifying learners who may need some additional support to assist their learning and for assessing their needs.

Additional Support for Learning:  Assessment

Find out more information on the assessment of additional support needs.  Parents/carers have the right to request that the Council undertake a process of assessment to establish whether their child has additional support needs.

Additional Support for Learning:  Co-ordinated Support Plan

Where a child's or young person's needs are longer lasing and require significant levels of support from a number of agencies, a Co-ordinated Support Plan may be necessary.

Additional Support Needs:  Placement in Mainstream Schools

North Ayrshire Council aims to meet additional support needs in local mainstream schools.  Every school-aged child or young person in Scotland had the right to be educated with their peers in their local mainstream school.

Educational Psychology Service

The Educational Psychology Service works to promote the development of all children and young people.  The educational psychologists work together with staff, pupils, parents and other adults to help identify educational needs and strategies to meet those needs.

Transport for Children with Additional Support Needs

Find out more information on free transport for children who are assessed as requiring it because of additional support needs or medical difficulties.
