All of these instruments play an important role within a group, band or orchestra setting.

Learning to play a musical instrument can help to develop a child's learning skills.   By learning to play a musical instrument children can -

  •  Learn to read music
  •  Boost their self-confidence by learning a new skill
  •  Improve their motor skills through the co-ordination required to play a musical instrument
  •  Improve their social skills by being part of a group and working together
  •  Learn patience, discipline and commitment through practising an instrument
  •  Improve their reading, counting and communication skills
  •  Discover new types of music and learn about different cultures
  •  Have fun!

All of these fundamental skills are transferable to other areas of their learning and development.  Studies have shown time and time again that children who take up the challenge to learn a musical instrument show significant growth and development in other areas of their learning.

Through the Music Service pupils can experience the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence.  The Music Service gives pupils an opportunity for challenge, breadth of learning and choice making them successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Music Tuition fees for school year 2011/12 is - £120 per instrument, £60 for additional family members and free to pupils in receipt of Free School Meals.  Pupils studying for an SQA music exam are exempt from music tuition fees.  (Pupils starting mid-term will have their fee calculated by their start date.)
