National Entitlement Card for young people
The Scottish Government, Young Scot, local councils and other organisations have worked together to offer young people across Scotland a National Entitlement Card, which make it easier to access their services. The National Entitlement Card, an electronic card with a smart chip, is free for all young people aged 11 to 25. North Ayrshire Library and Information Service will now help administer card applications to those pupils moving from P7 - S1, in partnership with primary schools.
Each primary seven child will receive a form in Spring requiring a parent or guardian to check some information, advise of any amendments and to provide a signature if the pupil is under 12 years old. There is also a library membership card to enable pupils to obtain their library membership, allowing them to borrow items from school and public libraries and use online reference resources for homework help. These forms should then be returned to the school by the specified date on the accompanying letter and pictures for the cards will be taken at their primary school. The cards will be sent to the pupil's home address in time for the new session in August.
In North Ayrshire the card is used:
-
as a catering card in dining halls of all secondary schools
-
for concessionary travel for young full-time volunteers aged 19-25 years
-
for concessionary travel for young people aged 16-18 years
