Councillor Information

 There are thirty elected Councillors who represent eight multi-member wards.  
  • 12 Labour members
  • 8 SNP members
  • 2 Conservatives
  • 2 Liberal Democrats
  • 6 independent members.

 

The Labour Party, as the largest party, forms a minority administration, which is led by Councillor David O'Neill, the SNP are led by Councillor Matthew Brown, the Conservatives are led by Councillor Elisabeth Marshall, and the Liberal Democrats are led by Councillor Andrew Chamberlain.

 

The Leader of the Council is Councillor David O'Neill with Councillor John Reid as Depute Leader. The Council's Provost is Councillor Pat McPhee and Councillor Ian Clarkson is Depute Provost.

 

The Council also appoints elected members to represent the interests of North Ayrshire on a range of local and national bodies.

 

Councillors hold surgeries where members of the public can talk to their local councillor on a variety of issues.

The Local Government (Allowances and Expenses) (Scotland) Regulations 2007 require Councils to keep a record of payments made to Members  (PDF 16Kb) and to publish the information for the preceding year by 1st June.
