North Ayrshire Council

Services A to Z:

Corporate Plans and Policies

Like each of the other 31 Scottish council areas, North Ayrshire has its unique history, characteristics and challenges. Our overall aim is to ensure a better life – across all its aspects – for the people of North Ayrshire. We have a set of interrelated plans and policies to describe what we need to do to ensure a better life and how we aim to achieve this.

Equality

Promoting equality is one of the Council's core values. The principles of equality and fairness are central to all of the Council's activities and its commitment to equality is set out in its Equality Policy (PDF 48Kb) and Single Equality Scheme (PDF 1.7Mb).

Local Development Plans

Development Plans deal with proposed land use and are key to the Council's regeneration objectives. The Scottish Government has introduced a new planning system. This means that we must now prepare a new style plan. It is called the Local Development Plan (LDP) and replaces the existing Structure and Local Plans.

Carbon Management and Climate Change Declaration

The Scottish Government has drawn up Scotland's Climate Change Declaration, which all 32 local authorities in Scotland have signed up to. The Declaration acknowledges that local authorities accept that climate change is occurring and commits local authorities to take action to both mitigate and adapt to climate change.  he Scottish Government has also introduced a Climate Change Bill which includes a statutory target to reduce Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

We have already made considerable progress in meeting the commitments in Scotland's Climate Change Declaration mainly by producing and implementing a Carbon Management Plan to reduce the Council's carbon emissions.
