Audit Scotland is a statutory body that conducts 'Best Value' audits of councils, and other public sector bodies, to assess the extent to which they are meeting their legislative duties to:

work with partners to identify a clear set of priorities that respond to the needs of the community in both the short and the longer term

meet and clearly demonstrate that they are meeting the community's needs.
