Obtaining copies of birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificates

You can apply to any of North Ayrshire Council's registration offices for a copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate.  The event must have occurred in Scotland to do so. 

Adopted birth certificate

To get a copy of your adopted birth certificate contact the following office:

Stillbirth certificate

If you need a copy of a stillbirth certificate you can get this from the Registrar General  for Scotland.

Fees for certificates in Scotland

  • The fee for a certificate is £15.
  •  Subsequent copies of the same certificate are £10 if ordered at the same time.
  •  If a certificate is paid for within one month of registration the fee is £10.
  •  If an abbreviated or full certificate is shown to get a full certificate of the same entry, the fee is £10.

England and Wales

The fee for a certificate from a registrar in England is £9.25 (Standard,  posted within 3 weeks) or £23.40 (Priority Service, posted within 2 days).  Addresses and telephone numbers are available from any North Ayrshire Council registration office.

The fee for a certificate from this office is 10 Euros.

If you are writing to the offices in England or Ireland should give as much information as possible:

  • Date of birth.
  • Place of birth.
  • Name and surname of parties involved.
  • Parents' details.
