Support for Young People in Education

We administers a number of funds that assist young people in education. This includes the Spier's Trust Scheme 1978 and the Hugh Watt Bursary.

 

You may be able to apply for an Educational Maintenance Award or support from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland.

Spier's Trust Scheme 1978

Each financial year the Spier's Trust Committee awards grants to people, including pupils at secondary school. Grants are available to people who live within the parishes of Beith, Dalry, Dunlop, Kilbirnie, Lochwinnoch and Neilston.

The award supports people whose financial circumstances mean that they require help to enable them to meet the cost of attending a course or obtaining tuition in any academic, artistic, scientific or technological subject.

Hugh Watt Bursary

The Hugh Watt Bursary aims to support studying at university in Scotland as approved by the Council.

What benefits can I get for my child to assist them attend school?
You may be eligible for an education maintenance allowance, free school meals, free school transport, disabled student allowance, a school clothing allowance and, for students who wish to stay on for 6th year at secondary school, there is also access grant funding available.
