Footwear and Clothing Grant

We provide support for people on certain benefits for school footwear and clothing. From 1st April 2010 the grant is £40.

Grants are available for any child who attends a North Ayrshire Council School from August 2010 and whose parent(s) are in receipt of any of the following -

  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit / Child Tax Credit (Income limit of £16,190 per year)
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Rebate
  • Income-based Job-seekers Allowance
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Who is eligible for a school clothing grant ?
If you receive Income Support or Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit, and your child is under the age of sixteen and attends a primary or secondary school, you may be eligible for a school clothing and footwear grant.

What documents do I need to show to prove I qualify for a school footwear and clothing grant?
When applying for a footwear and clothing grant you will need to show proof of benefit received as stated in the application form.

What benefits can I get for my child to assist them attend school?
You may be eligible for an education maintenance allowance, free school meals, free school transport, disabled student allowance, a school clothing allowance and, for students who wish to stay on for 6th year at secondary school, there is also access grant funding available.

How often can I apply for a school clothing grant?
You can apply or a school clothing and footwear grant once in any financial year, i.e. once between 1 April and 31 March.

How much will I receive if I am eligible for a clothing grant?
The school clothing grant is £40 at the start of the school session in August.

Can I apply for a school clothing and footwear grant if I am in receipt or Working Families Tax Credit?
For applicants in receipt of Working Tax Credit to qualify for a clothing grant, your gross annual income must be less than £16,190, as calculated by the Inland Revenue, and as shown on your award letter. You need to send a copy of your tax credit award letter with your application.

Can I apply for a school clothing and footwear grant if I am in receipt of Child Tax Credit?
If you receive Child Tax Credit only and your annual income is less than £16,190 as assessed by the Inland Revenue, then yes, you will be eligible for a school clothing and footwear grant. You need to send a copy of your tax credit award letter with your application.
