Auchenharvie Ice Rink Redevelopment
As part of the review of leisure facilities and the need for upgrade works to ensure compliance with regulations (relating to refrigerant gases used in ice rinks) North Ayrshire Council plan to centralise the ice provision by upgrading the rink at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre.
This will provide one ice rink for North Ayrshire that will accommodate public skating, curling, ice hockey, speed skating and ice dance and figure skating.
A series of meetings have been held with the various ice user groups to discuss the design of the redeveloped facility and a 56m x 30m ice rink is proposed. This is larger than the existing Magnum ice rink and is just below Olympic size.
The design team, comprising North Ayrshire Council Architects and Quantity Surveyors with the engineers, Harley Haddow are developing the detailed design concept and the layout (PDF 764kb).
Planning Consent was granted at the end of November 2009. The programme anticipates a site start for the main works in summer 2010 with completion fit out /commissioning summer 2011.
