Services A to Z:

Psychological Services in Schools and other Educational Establishments

Our aim is to work with others to create conditions where children and young people benefit from educational provision and develop to their potential.

Education Psychology Service:

  • helps in the identification of additional support needs
  • works in partnership with the key adults involved with children to bring about positive change
  • raises awareness and understanding of the impact of the challenges children experience
  • advises and trains others
  • carries out research and evaluations to help develop services for children
  • applies positive psychology, enabling solutions rather than analysing problems

Examples of the wide range of work undertaken by the service are:

  • The early identification of and planning for children with significant needs from birth into preschool through PreSCAT
  • Working with children and schools to prevent exclusion
  • Working with schools to promote literacy and attainment at all levels
  • Providing expert advice and helping to design programmes for children with a variety of specific needs such as dyslexia and autism
  • Evaluating initiatives

We work in partnership with other services and agencies. A key part of our service is delivered through schools and pre-five establishments. The psychologist works together with teachers, parents and other professionals to help children and young people.

Most of our team are chartered educational psychologists who use their knowledge of psychology, learning and education to help children and young people.
