Step into the past with Saints, Monks & Knights
Published by North Ayrshire Museums, this book is an in-depth guide to North Ayrshire's Mediaeval and Early Renaissance history in stone.
Exploring North Ayrshire's past, the book invites you to venture out to discover these amazing artefacts and structures. Many are located against some of the most scenic coastal and countryside backdrops in Ayrshire.
From Skelmorlie Aisle |in Largs, to Brodick Castle |on the Isle of Arran, to the Norman Abbey |at Kilwinning and Garrison House |in Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae.
The North Ayrshire Museum in Saltcoats, is housed in an 18th century church, where the Ardrossan Sarcophagus and a fragment of the Kilwinning Cross are on display.

Saints, Monks & Knights - Photography Exhibition - Until 3 July 2010
To celebrate the launch of the book, this photographic exhibition |is a delightful accompaniment to Saints, Monks and Knights by local artist and phtographer, Brian Craig|. Brian works from a small studio within the Courtyard Studio |complex on Irvine Harbourside.

Free drop in event for families
Come and visit Sir Hugo, the bravest knight in Scotland. He will take you on a journey back in time and weave webs of fantastic tales about the area. To help him on his way, the Rangers Service will be on hand to provide folklore and fauna trails within the graveyard grounds of the museum. Also on offer will be, drop-in sessions for all ages to explore traditional crafts such as, heraldry (including paper shield & armour making, leather craft and, the creation of medieval stone sculpture – find out more about the mysterious carvings on the tombs of Knights.
No need to book this event but we welcome advance notification of interest.
