Community Wardens - Our Approach
From 1st April 2011, there will be some changes to how Community Wardens provide the service to residents.
North Ardrossan and Ardeer, Stevenston, will have Community Wardens patrolling in the area as usual however, there will no longer be a base in Morris Moodie Avenue, Stevenston or Afton Place, Ardrossan.
You will still be able to speak to your Community Wardens when you see them on patrol or you can telephone us on 01294 314690. We can also be contacted by email at communitywardens@north-ayrshire.gov.uk.
We will still have bases in Pennyburn, Kilwinning, Bourtreehill/Broomlands, Irvine and Redburn/Vineburgh, Irvine and North Saltcoats. The teams that cover Hayocks, Ardeer, North Ardrossan and North Saltcoats will now work from a centralised base in Wheatley Road, Saltcoats.
Community Wardens will also now be patrolling in the Hayocks, Stevenston from 16th April 2011. If you are a resident in the Hayocks look out for us in your streets. We are easily recognisable wearing red tops or jackets and navy blue trousers. We always carry identification.
We work everyday except Wednesday between 1.00 p.m. and 9.45 p.m.
Wardens will work with the community to help make your estate a more pleasant place to live. They aim to:
-
Reduce and prevent crime and antisocial behaviour
-
Improve the quality of your environment
-
Increase public confidence
Community Wardens will do this by:
-
Patrolling the estate.
-
Reporting any evidence of fly-tipping, graffiti, abandoned vehicles and faulty street lighting they find.
-
Working with our housing officers and estate caretakers to make sure that our tenants do not break the terms of their tenancy agreements.
-
Helping and reassuring vulnerable tenants (for example, frail and elderly or disabled tenants) and, where appropriate, referring them to other agencies who can help them.
-
Talking to young people in the area and telling them about places they can go that will keep them off the streets and out of trouble.
-
Supporting community groups in the area helping to promote residents' pride in their community.
-
Being the 'eyes and ears' for local residents and working with them to create safer, friendlier communities.
We work in partnership with a number of agencies, for example, the Police, the Antisocial Behaviour Investigation Team, Housing Offices and Victim Support. We meet regularly with our partners to discuss any issues in the communities we work in and try to resolve them through working together to find the best solutions.
