Sex shop licences
Under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, we licence the operation of sex shops. Anyone who proposes to open a sex shop must first apply to us for a licence.
A sex shop is defined in the Act as meaning any premises including any vehicle, vessel or stall, used for a business which consists to a significant degree of selling, hiring, exchanging, lending, displaying or demonstrating sex articles.
Among those grounds upon which a sex shop licence can be refused is over provision of licences. Over provision can mean the Council refusing to grant any such licence applied for.
To date we have not granted any licence to operate a sex shop within our area.
The fee for this application is £1700
