2. Irvine Historical Tour
Submitted report by the Chief Executive on the outcome of a meeting with local groups concerning a proposed Historical Tour of Irvine town centre.
A consultation meeting took place in the Volunteer Rooms, Irvine, on 26 January 2004 and was attended by local individuals and representatives from local groups including Irvine Community Council, Irvine Burns Club, Cunninghame Ramblers, Irvine Historical Society, Irvine Carters Society and Irvine Incorporated Trades.
The meeting discussed the broad concept of the tour and suggestions were put forward as to the buildings and sites of interest that could be incorporated in to it. Information was provided on the "Irvine Town Trail" that existed under Cunninghame District Council and it was agreed that this could form the basis of the proposed tour, subject to the inclusion of other sites and buildings of interest identified. It was agreed that a small working group should be established from the groups and individuals represented at the meeting to develop the proposal further, with the aim of having the tour up and running by summer 2004.
The Committee (a) noted the outcome of the consultation meeting and the support for the proposed Historical Tour of Irvine Town Centre; and (b) agreed that a comprehensive report be submitted to a future meeting, to include final details of the tour, proposals to include Common Good owned buildings, and information on resource requirements.
